Joe Horton is an ultramarathoner and the father of a Stars baseball player. When Joe learned of Matt's story and reflected on his own relationship with his son, Jackson, he wanted to do something to help the MVP Memorial Foundation. Joe offered to raise money for Matt's charity by running the Daytona 100 Ultramarathon this coming December 10th. Joe will run 100 miles down the east coast of Florida in under 30 hours.

100% of the funds will go to the Matthew Vernon Poyner Memorial Foundation to honor Matt's life by supporting individuals and organizations whose efforts ensure that Matt's kind and loving spirit endures as an inspiration to others.

Training Progress:

  • Training for a 50k race on November 12 and then run 20 miles the next day to mimic running on tired legs. This will be his largest week volume wise in the 75-80 mile range. He will then begin tapering his miles after that as he heads towards race day.

  • Ran 46.3 miles in the Adventure Trail Race in Triangle on September 17 -  18th out of 93 finishers.

  • August was a 200 mile month for Joe.

  • Joe has logged over 1579.1 miles year to date across 196 training runs.
